Al Sayegh presides CGMIEC Meeting

The Committee for Goods and Materials Subject to Import and Export Control (CGMIEC) held a meeting chaired by H.E. Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State and Chairman of Committee. The meeting was attended by representatives of relevant government agencies in the UAE, as committee members. His Excellency has welcomed the members of the Committee as well as its new members and stressed the importance of the Committee's role in strengthening export control and supporting the affairs of the Security Council in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as well as other relevant entities. H.E the Minister has also emphasized the efforts the CGMIEC Executive Office had already made in acting as the national coordinator of targeted financial sanctions, wishing everyone success in the meeting agenda.

For his part, H.E. Talal Mohammed Al-Teneiji, Director of the Executive Office of the Commodity Committee, reviewed the agenda of the meeting. This included a presentation on the tasks and responsibilities recently assigned to the Committee and its Executive Office, in accordance with Cabinet Resolution No. (74) of 2020 concerning the UAE list of terrorists and the implementation of the UN Security Council decisions relating to preventing and countering financing terrorism and leveraging non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and other related decisions. The agenda also covered workload statistic, the organization of workshops and training programs, and the initiatives accomplished in accordance with the action plan.

The committee meeting addressed the presentation of the latest developments in the office's regulations and legislative regulations, memorandums of understanding, as well as a brief overview of the Executive Office's efforts to play its role as a national coordinator of targeted financial sanctions. The agenda also raised the latest developments in the United Nations Security Council file and the Chemical Weapons Treaty besides the initiatives that included the presentation of the website improvement plan and relevant regulations. Other issues related to the notification of regulators and law enforcement, financial facilities, non-financial businesses and professions specified for updating Security Council sanctions lists and the local terrorism list were also discussed in the meeting.

Participants in the CGMIEC Meeting discussed recent developments relating to the implementation of Cabinet Resolution No. (74) of 2020, as well as the developments in the draft update of Federal Law No. (13) of 2007 on goods subject to import and export control. The issue related to the schedule of controlled goods, adopted under Cabinet Resolution No. (50) of 2020 on the strategic goods schedule attached to Federal Law No. (13) of 2007 on goods subject to import and export control was also brought on the table.

 

At the end of the meeting, His Excellency Al Sayegh praised the effective role of the members of the Committee and stressed the importance of proceeding with supporting its tasks to meet the commitments of the UAE, expressing gratitude to the participants for their concerted efforts to ensure that the Committee performs its assigned tasks and responsibilities
