EOCN, the Technical Committee for the Implementation of Security Council Resolutions and the National Authority of the Republic of Sudan share best experiences in combating the financing of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons

His Excellency Talal Al Teneiji, Director of the Executive Office for Control and Non-Proliferation (EOCN) has headed the Office's delegation to the Republic of Sudan on a two-day visit, during which he met with the Technical Committee for the Implementation of Security Council Resolutions in the Republic of Sudan. The visit was to discuss the best practices and experiences in the field of applying targeted financial sanctions and combating terrorism and the proliferation of weapons and their financing.

At the meetings held in Khartoum, the capital, Al Teneiji has discussed with H.E. Howayda Ali Awad Al-Karim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice and Chairman of the National Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Committee, and H.E. Essam El-Din Marzouq Saad Omar, Chairman of the Technical Committee for the Implementation of Security Council Resolutions; ways and prospects of partnership and joint cooperation in the field of implementing targeted financial sanctions and combating the financing of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons..

Representatives of both parties presented their experience in the application of targeted financial sanctions in accordance with Security Council resolutions, related to the tenth and eleventh direct results of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) evaluation methodology. This is besides the procedural mechanisms and processes adopted to ensure the optimal implementation of the obligations of subjected individuals from financial sector and non-financial professions and businesses, in addition to the best ways to enhance operations to counter attempts by terrorist groups and organizations to exploit financial institutions, Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions (DNFBP)  or non-profit organizations to support the financing of terrorist activities, acts, or the proliferation of weapons.
