The Executive Office for Control & Non-Proliferation concluded a workshop on “Implementing a Risk-Based Approach to Preventing the Abuse of Non-Profit Organizations in Terrorist Financing Activities In the Context of FATF Recommendation 8”. The workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Community Development (MOCD), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), and the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF) and the Charity Commission for England and Wales (CCEW), as well as the presence of Gulf Cooperation Council Countries delegations, government and private sector institutions. The workshop covered FATF latest amendments to Recommendation 8 for Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs), reviewing the best practices paper on combating the terrorist financing abuse of non-profit organisations, addressing challenges that the supervisory authorities might face for this sector. The workshop also focused on the importance of communication and raising awareness to ensure implementation of Anti-Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Proliferation Financing Standards of the Non-Profit Organisations.
