The UAE Cabinet approves the inclusion of 38 individuals and 15 entities in the national terrorism list

The UAE Cabinet has issued Resolution No 83 of 2021, designating 38 individuals and 15 on its approved list of persons and organizations supporting terrorism.

The resolution underscores the UAE’s commitment to target and dismantle networks that finance terrorism and its related activities, and in implementation of Security Council Resolution No. 1373 "2001" which calls on member states of the United Nations to freeze funds and assets belong to terrorist persons and entities without delay and disrupt networks associated with terrorist financing. Prohibit the provision of any funds or financial services directly or indirectly for the benefit of the listed persons and entities.

The resolution called on all supervisory authorities to follow up and account for any individuals or entities affiliated with or associated with any financial, commercial or technical relationship, and to take the necessary measures according to the laws in force in the country in less than 24 hours.

In line with Cabinet Resolution No. 74 of 2020 regarding Terrorism Lists Regulation and Implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions on the Suppression and Combating of Terrorism, Terrorist Financing, Countering the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction and its Financing and Relevant Resolutions, the Executive Office of the Commodities Committee - National Coordinator of Targeted Financial Sanctions - circulated the list of individuals and entities mentioned in the Cabinet resolution No 83 of 2021 immediately upon its issuance and through the notification system to all supervisory authorities, law enforcement agencies, local licensing and registration bodies, financial institutions (FI) and designated non-financial businesses and professions (DNFBPs), which must update their databases and immediately freeze of a confirmed or potential match and inform the Executive Office through the GoAML electronic system. and on the other hand the Executive Office of the Commodities Committee provides on the website uaeiec.gov.ae the local terrorism list and the United Nations Security Council Consolidated List, which includes the names of individuals, entities and organizations included in them, in addition to a copy of legislation and guidelines for the private sector to ensure Effective implementation of targeted financial sanctions.

It should be noted that these efforts reflect the extent of the UAE's keenness to combat and eliminate terrorism and enhance cooperation to maintain international peace and security from terrorist acts, especially through the mechanisms of the United Nations, and this is one of the principles that will be focused on during the UAE's membership in the United Nations Security Council for the period 2022 - 2023.
